WorldHippoDay. Did You Know?

DID YOU KNOW?
There is only one continent in the world you can find a hippo. That continent is Africa.

Each year, World Hippo Day on February 15th provides a special day to celebrate the world’s third-largest mammal. It’s also a day to learn more about the hippopotamus.

The blue whale and the African elephant are the only two mammals in the world that are larger than the hippopotamus.

The word hippo translates to river horse in ancient Greek. The giant animal weighs a whopping 8,000 pounds.

Hippos are native to over 30 countries in Africa. These herbivores live up to 50 years in the wild. There are only two species of hippos on the planet. These include the common hippopotamus and the pygmy hippo.

We support vaccination against COVID-19,we don’t support forced vaccination

We support vaccination against COVID-19,we don’t support forced vaccination in Uganda,Africa and the entire world.

In Uganda, it’s evident that many workers (both private and public) are being vaccinated against their will, and they accept in fear of losing jobs.

COVID-19 has been somewhere somehow commercialized. Such acts must be condemned.

130 million people on the brink of starvation

The United Nations (UN) Secretary General, Antonio Guterres has expressed concern over the situation caused by COVID-19 pandemic especially intensified food insecurity.

In his World Food Day message published by UN News yesterday October 16, 2020, he said some 130 million people worldwide risk being pushed to the brink of starvation by the end of this year.

This is in addition to the 690 m people who already lack enough to eat and more than 3bn people cannot afford a healthy diet.

Guterres says without zero tolerance to hunger, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) cannot be achieved.

This year’s  #WorldFoodDay marked the 75th Anniversary of the founding of Food and Agriculture Organization-FAO, with a view to looking towards the future we need to build together and the theme was “Grow, nourish, sustain. Together. Our actions are our future.”

Patrick Mwesigye, the founder and team leader of the Uganda Youth and Adolescent Health Forum (UYAHF)  says the Youth need support and competent representatives

Uganda has today joined the rest of the world to commemorate International Youth Day under “Youth Engagement for Global Action”, with President Museveni reechoing his call that the youth participate in poverty alleviation activities.

The founder and team leader of the Uganda Youth and Adolescent Health Forum (UYAHF) Patrick Mwesigye,29, who doubles as National Resistance Movement (NRM) youth league chairperson for Kamukuzi in Mbarara city has challenged government to involve the youth in all programs as well as supporting youth projects for development. Mwesigye who is also western Uganda Youth Member of Parliament 2021-26 aspirant (MP) says the youth need competent representatives because they are being marginalized and some have succumbed to the situation hence increased early marriages and pregnancies, abortions, drug abuse, and other ill acts which the government should strongly fight.

The government was further asked to ensure that skills and vocational studies like tailoring, carpentry, and others should also be supported to fight unemployment and poverty through creation of sources of income.

This day was first marked on August 12,2000 and today’s theme seeks to highlight the ways in which the engagement of young people at the local, national and global levels is enriching national and multilateral institutions and processes, as well as draw lessons on how their representation and engagement in formal institutional politics can be significantly enhanced.

Patrick is the winner of the 2019 Global Youth Leadership Award on Universal Health Coverage (UHC) stresses that the youth and women have always positioned themselves to benefit from different opportunities, only to be sabotaged or underestimated by some leaders. This award was given to him by World Health Organization, African Union and the Access-Challenge at the sidelines of the recent 2019 United Nations General Assembly in New York.
